I just recently adopted Aluin from my friend who could no longer give him the life he needs. He’s an American Dingo and I love everything about him. He’s still a puppy, so he’s an absolute mess sometimes.
Grabbing your socks when you’re not looking, juggling through 30 different toys without really playing with any of them, and shedding all over the house make him just another character around here.
He gets along well with my other dog PJ, although PJ is about 45 lbs lighter and suddenly a big wuss around Aluin. Aluin has no problem getting along with PJ, but he just wants to play with him, something that PJ will just not do.
Luckily he was already house-trained and crate-trained. He’s been pretty good about sleeping in his crate and going into it when I tell him to. He’s just too big and too much of a puppy to leave around the house for 8 hours without anyone around. I got him all set up with a great dog bed and a good spot to sleep right near the window.
Sometimes he tries to sneak up and crash out on my pillow, which is right near another window that he loves staring out of and licking the crap out of. I think I’ve been taking care of him for about 3 weeks now and he’s really adjusted well. He had some moments here and there where he was a brat, like this morning when I wanted to sleep in. He whined incessantly for 30 minutes around 7:30am until I let him out and let him go romp around outside.
About 20 minutes later I let him in and we headed upstairs. He made a running leap onto my bed and wouldn’t budge. Trying to pick up a 55lb dingo who just wants to act like a bag of wet sand isn’t real easy. I usually have to slide him off the bed about half-way before he’ll respond and do what I want. He’s like a kid, for real. He lets out a long sigh if I tell him to get off my bed when he just wants to lay around and shed his hair all over it so that I wake up covered in dog hair and stink like a beast (this part may or may not be the dog’s fault!).
So far so good though. He sheds a bit, which is a pain, but worth it.
