So someone has broken the news that astronauts routinely imbibe the good spirits before liftoff. If I were them I would be doing it too. There’s only so much you can be prepared to handle while you’re completely sober, so it makes sense that they would seek Jim Beam or Jack to get a little ‘unwound’.

The report says that:

Alcohol was “freely used” in crew quarters, the report said, citing interviews with flight surgeons and astronauts. In two instances, astronauts were so drunk that crew members worried about flight safety. Their concerns were disregarded, according to the report.

Astronauts aren’t the highly respected national heroes that they used to be, but hey, they are doing something good still….I guess?
