KVM for the normal person means nothing. But for someone like me who is involved in the IT industry knows them well. They are basically a device that you can hook a single Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (hence the KVM) up to so that you can plug up multiple computers for use with a single set of input and display devices. It makes life convenient when you have a bunch of computers and a single monitor/keyboard/mouse.
Instead of having to use the traditional KVM, which just “splits” up the same kind of ports (ps/2 and VGA in this case), the KVM2USB allows a user to administer headless machines through a simple USB connection. KVM2USB Technical Specifications show some of the key features of the device. It’s small, extremely cost effective compared with a LCD, terminal, and input devices for every single server and test machine in an organization. The suggested use of the device features a laptop as the “head” that can be moved from machine to machine using the USB 2.0 connection on the KVM2USB and capturing the signals of the input and display and emulating them on the host machine. Apart from the internal hardware functionality, it has three status LEDs to show the simple things that we really need to know like ‘power’ and ‘operation in progress.’ The requirements for OS are either Win 2000 or XP and it is not backwards compatible with USB 1.0 or 1.1 ports. At maximum frame rate, the magic little box can achieve 28 fps. That’s pretty impressive for hardware like this.
